What happens to your data here.
Merodan is an independent studio that makes small, free tools. Most of them never see your files at all. This page explains, tool by tool, what does leave your device, and how the advertising that pays for the tools works.
Last updated 26 October 2026. Questions: hello@merodan.com.
The tools
Pumice — metadata remover
Your photos, videos, RAW files and PDFs are opened and cleaned by the page, in your browser. They are never uploaded, and the server keeps no copy.
Galley — resume scorer
Your resume is read and scored in your browser tab. If you ask the coach about a bullet, that one bullet and your answers to its questions are sent to the server and passed to Google’s Gemini models to write suggestions. Nothing else is sent.
Forme — resumes, cover letters and the job hunt
There are no accounts. Your documents, tracked jobs and practice sessions are saved in your browser’s own storage on your device. When you use an AI feature, the section it works on is sent to the server and passed to Google’s Gemini models; when you practise an interview out loud, the recording is sent to be transcribed. Neither is kept. If you create a share link, that document is stored on the server, with a simple view count and no IP addresses, until you stop sharing it.
Frisket — background removal
On browsers with WebGPU, the cut-out runs on your own graphics card and the photo never leaves your device. On others, a reduced working copy (at most 2048 pixels) is sent to the server for the cutting step only; the full-size photo stays in your browser. Nothing is stored.
Marginalia — annual report briefs
Marginalia needs an account. Your email address and sign-in are handled by Supabase, and paid plans by Razorpay, which receives your payment details directly — we never see card numbers. The report is normally read in your browser, and only the sections the brief needs are sent to the server and to Google’s Gemini models; if your browser can’t read it, the PDF is uploaded to be read on the server instead, and isn’t kept. A brief you choose to share is stored on the server so the link works.
Offprint — save posts and videos
The link you paste is fetched by the server, and the file it saves is deleted from the server within 30 minutes. Offprint, at offprint.merodan.com, shows a few banner ads from Adsterra, not Google. Each one runs in a sealed-off frame that can't read the page, change it or send you anywhere you didn't click; Adsterra may use its own cookies to choose and count ads, under its privacy policy.
Aperture — equity screening
Aperture needs an account. Your email address, the scans, watchlists and alerts you save, and a record of activity on your account are stored so the service works and can be audited. Alerts are sent to the contact details you choose. Paid plans are handled by Razorpay. The market data it screens is public. Aperture shows no ads.
QAgent — QA automation
QAgent needs an account, handled by Supabase. The documents, test cases and projects you add are stored in your account so you can work on them, and are sent to Google’s Gemini models when you ask QAgent to generate tests. QAgent shows no ads.
Everywhere
The server keeps short-lived access logs (address, time, page requested) to stop abuse and fix faults. We don’t sell data, and none of the tools uses analytics or tracking of its own.
Advertising
To keep the tools free, Marginalia, Galley, Pumice, Forme and Frisket show one small, labelled ad at the bottom of the page, below the tool. The home page, Studio, Tiger and Offprint have no ads, and neither do sign-in, account or shared-document pages.
The ads are served by Google AdSense. In plain terms:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and to other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ad Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ personalised ads at aboutads.info. You’ll still see ads, but they won’t be based on your browsing.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites like this one in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you’ll be asked for your choice before any advertising cookies are set, and you can change it later from the link the consent message leaves on the page.
The ads don’t get your files. Google’s ad code loads on the page, but the files and documents you open in a tool are handled only by that tool’s own code. Nothing in Merodan gives them to the ad, and the ad loads only after you scroll near it.
Cookies and storage
- Advertising cookies from Google and its partners, on the five tools that show ads, as described above.
- A sign-in cookie on Marginalia, so you stay signed in.
- Browser storage in Forme and some tools, to keep your documents and settings on your device. It stays on your device and you can clear it from your browser at any time.
Children
The tools are not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
